Sunscreen: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Here's a bit of scary info for ya, your sunscreen? Yeah it's probably really, really bad for you. Like way worse than if you just got a sunburn. Recent studies have shown that the ingredients used in American sunscreens have major chemicals and aren't helping at all to reduce skin cancer rates. And all this time we were trying to prevent skin cancer! What's even more infuriating to me (which is why I've decided to share this bit of info with you) is how many people have no idea. So you've been spraying SPF 70 all over your body  (or even worse your kids) everyday thinking you're doing something good? Wrong. Stop it now and read up!

This brilliant website outlines all the sunscreen do's and don'ts for you. I've recapped the things to avoid:
  • Spray Sunscreens
  • Super-High SPF's
  • Loose Powder Sunscreen
  • Bug Repellent / Sunscreen Combos
  • Towelettes
  • Tanning Oils
  • Vitamin A
  • Sunscreens containing Retinyl Palmitate or Oxybenzone

My go-to all natural (not filled with harmful toxins) sunscreens is Suntegrity. It has excellent coverage, has a light easily absorbed application, and even has a tinted sunscreen that I use of my face every single day.
