Real Beauty

Dove always has the best marketing campaigns. The below video is so touching. It tells a lot about how we view ourselves versus how other people view us. Take three minutes to watch...

Especially for women, we have unrealistic ideas of what we should look like, how skinny we should be, how we should dress... the list goes on. To top it off, once a month our hormones go awry making even the fittest, most beautiful girl feel down right low. This is an issue that perhaps we've always known and yet deep down, all of us still can have feelings of inadequacy.

How do we learn to love ourselves?
For me, I find confidence and encouragement through my faith. My sister wrote an inspiring book called God & Boobs, which completely addresses this issue. I also have reinforcement through my husband. I am so grateful to have someone who tells me I'm beautiful every day. Even on the days when my hair is unkept, I'm broken out with no make-up, and I just feel awful, my husband tells me I'm the most beautiful girl in the world... that feels pretty dang good. Surround yourself with people who see the good in you, love you and encourage you. I challenge you to ditch the people that make you feel inadequate.

Although exercise may not be a lasting resolution to feelings of inadequacy, fitness can create a good mood in only one workout. Chemically, when our heart rate rises, our body releases endorphins. Endorphins = happy pills. Not only are we literally in a better mood in minutes, but we are actively doing something to change our body. We are getting fit: feeling better and looking better. Sound good? You're only one workout away from a good mood... and if someone hasn't told you lately, you are pretty enough xo
