The Terribly Wonderful Cold Cure

Original Image
One of the many joys of being pregnant is that when you come down with a sore throat, runny nose, sinus infection (or all of the above) there's not a whole lot you can take to get better. When I started to feel a tickle in my throat on Saturday night, I knew I was in trouble. My normal attack of Wellness Formula, extra vitamin C, garlic, and echinacea, was "not recommended for pregnant women." What to do?

I'm not a fan of medication -- I believe in getting well, not just feeling better. I remembered a year or two ago when I came down with a cold that I just couldn't kick. My dear husband brought me home the most disgusting drink I've ever had. It was so terrible I forced myself to drink the whole thing and felt better literally within minutes. By the next day I was nearly %100.

I've adapted/stolen this lovely recipe from my favorite local organic grocery store, Mother's Market (think Whole Foods, only better). Their Cold Comfort juice tastes so terrible and yet works so magically... it is a must if you're feeling under the weather!

Cold Comfort

6-8 Large Carrots
1 Lemon
2-3 cloves raw garlic
1 tsp. diced ginger
A few shakes of cayenne pepper

You can juice it yourself at home or hop on over to your local juicery. Upon first sip you may hate me, but once you're finished I promise you'll be feeling loads better.

PS. I'd warn your significant other about your ensuing bad breath and don't use a blender unless you plan to strain it or torture yourself. Cheers!
